Get Ready for a Rockin' Party!

My name is Shannon Brown and I am so glad that you either stumbled across my site or purposefully visited.

Though I would love to blog, that's not what this site is about!  My purpose is to advertise the Zumba fitness

classes that I offer for interested "Zumb-ists" and to introduce myself.

I was born and raised in NJ, so I guess that makes me a Jersey Girl (but not like the Jersey Shore girls!).  I

started taking dance classes when I was three years old and continued to dance until I was about 18.  At this

time I went off to The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) to study elementary education and psychology.  In 2002,

after 4 wonderful years, I graduated from TCNJ and was hired by Mansfield Township Elementary School in

Columbus, NJ.  I have been working there ever since and have taught both 4th grade and 3rd grade.  I also

obtained my Masters Degree from Holy Family University in the area of education, specifically that of a Reading

Specialist.

After I graduated and started working, I wanted to get active again since I had stopped dancing to focus on my

studies.  I tried the gym, running, and bought several "fitness" DVDs.  Nothing could keep me interested and I

dreaded doing any type of "physical" activity.  That was until my mom introduced me to Zumba in January

2011.  I had been desiring to get into shape and lose a few pounds before my wedding in July 2011, so I

decided to give Zumba a try.  Guess what? I LOVED IT!  I loved it SO much that I started taking multiple classes

each week and actually looked forward to going to class.  Now, the main reason I took these classes was not to

lose lots of weight, but I did drop around 8 pounds, gained muscle, and felt better.  Though I don't have a

huge weight loss story that results from Zumba, I have met SEVERAL people who were overweight, took Zumba

classes and dropped a significant amount of weight.  So whatever you are looking for - whether it's significant

weight loss, toning up, having fun, feeling better both physically and mentally, etc. -  Zumba is your answer.

So how did I become a Zumba instructor?  Well, I have to give all the credit to my first Zumba instructor for my

current Zumba Basic, Zumba Gold, and Zumbatomic licenses.  After several months of attending her classes, she

asked me if I would go to a training and get licensed so that I could take over for her when she had her baby

(she was due 9 months later).  Though I was lenient to get licensed, I took my first training course in October

of 2011 (received my Zumba Basic and Zumba Gold licenses).  Guess what? I FELL EVEN MORE IN LOVE WITH

ZUMBA!  My passion to teach Zumba to participants 18+ years of age comes from my desire to help people

achieve their goals while having fun, being part of a network of supportive individuals, and improving their

health without even realizing it.  I have been teaching ever since and have more recently taken a training and

obtained my Zumbatomic license, allowing me to teach Zumba to children ages 4-12.  Being a school teacher, I

already truly enjoy educating and spending time with children...add that with Zumba and there's my passion for

teaching Zumbatomic!

Now that you know more about me, I'd love to get to know more about you and hope to see you in one of my

classes!  Take a look at the information below for class dates, times, and descriptions.
